I was fascinated to learn from my father recently that the originator of the “Big Bang” theory was a Catholic priest by the name of Georges Lemaitre:

Pope Pius XII “declared at the November 22, 1951 opening meeting of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences that the Big Bang theory accorded with the Catholic concept of creation” (citation from “Religious Interpretations” section of the “Big Bang” article on Wikipedia [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_bang#Religious_interpretations]).

This is just one of the many instances from history that refutes the modern misconception that the Catholic Church is “anti-science.”
