“The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath”

The title of this post comes from Matthew 12:8.  Here is the first mention of the Sabbath in Scripture:

Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.  And on the seventh day God finished his work which he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had done.  So God blessed the seventh day and hallowed it, because on it God rested from all his work which he had done in creation.  (Genesis 2:1-3)

Jesus’ new work for the New Creation “begins” on the 8th day:  Easter Sunday after the Sabbath (His “rest” in the grave).  The Lord creates a new kind of human life.  Mary is the first New Daughter, and Jesus is the first New Son…of Man.
